Knowing The "Paisas"

Pereira is the capital of the Department of Risaralda. Nicknamed "The querendona, night owl ("Trasnochadora") and Morena". In Colombia, the "paisa" term refers to the inhabitants of Antioquia, Risaralda, Caldas, Quindio and Norte del Valle Norte del Tolima. Linguistically speaking, the term describes a typical kind of language and intonation of the departments of Antioquia, Caldas, Risaralda and Quindio, and sociocultural refers to the distinctive customs of the departments of Antioquia, Caldas, Quindio, Risaralda, North Valley and North Tolima. That's why a "paisa" is considered primarily so, paisa, with virtually no class distinction or origin.  Normally, the people not said; terms as the "medellinense", "Manizalita" "Quindiano" "Risaraldense" as if is easy to hear "Bogotano", "Caleño", "Cartagenero", that are other departments of colombia. All the people of the "Eje cafetero" are called " The paisas"

Generally, It is the houses of grandparents, where all the family get together in important dates, as christmas, birthdays among others. In my vacations, normally. I travel to Pereira, and all the family get together where my grandmother. It is moments very beautiful y full of joy and happiness.

The Spanish of the Paisa Region is characterized by voseo, ie the use of "vos" and the "lisp", ie, intense pronunciation of the letter "s". For an example in terms of phonetics in the paisa accent, when a question is asked, the sentence ends in a low tone. In the area paisa constant use of the term; Then! ("pues") and the phrase; ! Eh ave Maria!. They are very characteristic of the "paisas".

The "Pereiranos" tend to be very devoted to the Catholic Church.

The "paisas" are very friendly people, willing to help and very attached to his family. "Paisa" that is respecting, is proud of being paisa. They people are very enterprising and full of dreams.

Typical Food

THE PAISA TRAY (Bandeja Paisa):

It is a well known, the most beloved and covered dish. It was called paisa tray by the large amount of food it contains. Bandeja paisa is something I’ve eaten all of my life. It is delicious.  Traditionally, Bandeja paisa includes beans, white rice, chicharrón, carne en polvo, chorizo, fried egg, ripe plantain, avocado and arepa.

THE MAZAMORRA AND CLEAR:

Mazamorra is a dish very popular in the Pereira department of Colombia. It is one of those derived from corn, is usually offered as dessert. This like the clear (white broth derivative thereof) serves as companion to the paisa tray. It can be consumed with milk and panela. Personally, I love this dish.

THE AREPA:

Arepas are one of my favorite foods. The Arepa is one the most popular foods in Colombia. They’re served in almost every home. Arepas are very versatile and can be eaten for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

It is one of the Principal Components of the typical food of the coffee region, is not only essential in the paisa tray but also for breakfast or snack, at breakfast it is recommended to accompany with egg or with "The calentao", can also be accompanied with lunch in a broth and evening with a chocolate or coffee.

THE CALENTADO OR "CALENTAO"

Traditional Colombian Breakfast. Calentado literally means “heated” and is a traditional Colombian breakfast born in the Andean region of the country (Cities with Pereira, Manizales among others). It is very common, in this region, to eat beans and rice every day for dinner. Then, for breakfast the next day, the beans and rice are reheated and served with egg, arepa, chorizo, chicharrón or grilled beef and hot chocolate. This breakfast are of my memories of my grandmother and my mother.
